Background
Markus Törmä (Lic.Tech in land surveying, Helsinki University of Technology) is Senior researcher at Finnish Environment Institute (Data and Information Centre / Geoinformatics Research) with expertise in earth observation for over 30 years. He has participated in European land monitoring (GMES & Copernicus Land Monitoring Service) since 2002 including following EU/ESA-funded projects: Corine Land Cover 2000 / 2006 / 2012 & 2018 (EU), FP7 HELM (EU), Geoland2 (EU, project manager at Syke), FPCUP Sentinel Mosaics (EU, project manager at Syke), FPCUP DG Clima (EU), BalticAIMS (ESA), SEOM S1 4SCI (ESA) and SnowPexCCN (ESA). His professional interests are image processing and interpretation methods including object oriented, machine learning and artificial intelligence methods for optical and microwave remote sensing images, land cover and use applications and change detection.
