The European Environment Agency EEA will publish ‘The European environment — state and outlook 2020’ report next week. This will be the sixth edition of the report. The report reviews the state, trends and future outlooks of environmental policy and the environment in Europe in relation to the global state of the environment every five years.
“The report is a summary of comprehensive reviews and research and offers insight into how the state of the environment is viewed in Europe and in various countries. It also reveals how Finland performs in comparison to other European countries. President of the EU Council, Finland emphasizes the importance of science based environmental regulation,” says State Secretary Terhi Lehtonen from the Ministry of the Environment.
‘The European environment — state and outlook 2020’ report will be published in a launch event held on 4 December in Brussels. During the event, the results of the report will be discussed and commented on by Executive Director of the European Environment Agency Hans Bruyninckx and State Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Terhi Lehtonen, among others. The launch event is part of the programme of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The discussion will be continued in stakeholder events
The Ministry of the Environment, Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and the Forum for Environmental Information invite everyone interested in the state of the environment to discuss the challenges and future opportunities in Finnish and European environmental policy. The discussion is kicked off with morning coffee in Pankkisali (bank hall) at the Ministry of the Environment on 14 January 2020. Workshops for researchers and science communicators as well as decision-makers and businesses will be organised later during the winter.
