Eeva Primmer has been appointed Research director at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) for a fixed term from 1.1.2024 to 31.12.2028. Eeva Primmer has worked at Syke since 1997 and has acted as group manager, research professor, and research director.
Syke's Research director is responsible for the quality, assessment and integrity of Syke's research as well as strengthening its impact and resources. The director is also closely involved in the strategic leadership of Syke as well as in the development and implementation of our activities and policies.
"I am excited to promote Syke's success in this time when both the environmental challenges and the research-based understanding require much stronger collaboration than before. This implies a need for more innovation as well as strategic and systematic implementation of our ideas," Primmer says.
Eeva has a PhD in Agriculture and Forestry from the University of Helsinki, and she is a Docent (Adjunct Professor) in environmental policy at the University of Helsinki. She has held a number of national and international expert roles and positions of trust. Since 2017, she has been a member of the International Resource Panel (IRP), which operates under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In the autumn of 2023, Eeva was elected to the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
