The Finnish Environment Institute SYKE has this week started its annual cyanobacterial bloom situation reporting. In lakes only small amounts of cyanobacteria have been observed at a few locations. In Finnish sea areas no cyanobacterial blooms have been observed this week. Citizens can participate in the cyanobacterial monitoring by submitting their own observations via the Havaintolähetti mobile phone application or by using the Järvi-meriwiki internet service (in Finnish or Swedish). SYKE will provide weekly reports of the cyanobacterial bloom situation until the beginning of September. The Finnish national algal situation reporting was commenced 20 years ago, in 1998.
